Skills Development for Research on Road Traffic Injuries, January 5, 2006, Kandy , Sri Lanka

Following the Secretariat Launch, the RTIRN hosted a one-day skills development workshop on road traffic injuries research. The workshop was widely attended by over 85 local participants representing a wide range of civil society including academia, medical professionals and public health practitioners. The workshop presenters offered strategies for writing grants, publications, and engaging policy makers in bringing research findings to practice. The regional presenters also shared local examples of successes and challenges in the field. This workshop was not only significant in helping local professionals strengthen their capacity for RTI research, it also facilitated networking and the establishment of long term local and regional partnerships among the participants. At the end of the day, tired but enthused participants walked away with not only tools for RTI research-they left with over 150 new partners and colleagues representing the 30 countries that make up the Road Traffic Injuries Research Network
